vendors we LOVE- jk expressions

There are SO many Vendors we LOVE in the San Diego wedding community, we thought we'd take some time to highlight a few. First up, Julia, an awesome caricature artist available for any occasion. LOVE!

Business name: JK Expressions, San Diego Caricature Artist
Date business was established: May 2010
Tell us a little about you & your company: I am professional caricature
artist specializing in wedding entertainment. I provide live
caricatures of the happy couples and guests during wedding receptions
or rehearsal dinners - this provides the guests and wedding party with
a unique commemorative of the event and entertains everyone as well. I
can also design customized wedding logos printed on each piece of
drawing paper so each caricature has the bride and groom’s own
“branding” on it. Live caricatures provide a great combination of
entertainment and personalized wedding favors and has proven to be a
big hit for couples looking for something truly unique.
How did you start into caricatures: I got my start doing caricatures working as an
artist at Legoland California. I branched into wedding caricatures
after being booked for a couple parties and realizing how much fun it
can add to any type of celebration. I enjoy doing caricatures at
weddings because the guests never expect it and it I love to play a
part in making a wedding really memorable.
What is one of your most memorable wedding moments: At one wedding
reception I drew three generations in one picture: the bride, her
mother and her grandmother. The grandmother had never gotten her
caricature done before and she absolutely loved it!
What are some other passions you have: I love books on philosophy and business, picking
the brains of other freelancers and entrepreneurs, margaritas, 30
Rock, and the idea of water sports - I don't actually play any water
sports but I love the idea of it. I enjoy learning new skills, right
now I'm teaching myself search engine optimization and finding it to
be a lot of fun.
What is one thing you can't live without: My crocs.
What was the last text message you sent: I told my sister "call me".
What is your favorite song to listen to right now: I start listening
to a lot of Nat King Cole when fall rolls around. All of his songs are
great, but his version of Nature Boy is my absolute favorite.
Favorite food or drink: The Oysters Rockefeller at Fish House Vera
Cruz in Carlsbad may just be my favorite food of all time - they are
insanely good.
Any final words of wisdom: If you're going to have a caricature artist draw
at your wedding, make sure that you're happy with their style. Some
caricature artists love to grossly exaggerate, and some people love
that, others hate it. If you want only a slightly exaggerated but
still flattering likeness, make sure to check the artist's samples to
ensure that that's the style they'll draw. At weddings, unless I'm
specifically asked to exaggerate, I like to keep the caricatures
flattering.

Teasers- anne & tyler! (Stone Brew Co)

On September 4th, 2011 Anne & Tyler got hitched at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens (one of our "vendors we LOVE") in sunny Escondido, CA. The wedding was a worldly affair, the bride wore a red sari and henna on her hands, and the theme reflected all the places the couple has traveled within their lives. It was a blast! These are just a few of the photos from our assistant, Aaron. I'm sure there will be much more to come. (especially since I'm kind of in love with this whole wedding, and the bride) ;) Enjoy!

breck & joe: vintage pop

July 16th 2011 was a wonderful Saturday in downtown San Diego. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, the Padres fans were cheering, and Breck & Joe tied the knot at the Hilton Bayfront. This wedding was anything but ordinary; from the bride's choice to assign an accent color to each bridesmaid and groomsman, to the very non-traditional "cocktail reception" fully stocked with signature drinks, food stations, a dessert bar, lounge furniture and one amazing piano man!
Breck knew from the moment she said yes that she wanted something completely different for her big day. Her dress was found online within weeks of her engagement on sale at BCBG, the bridal party's accent colors were chosen to really bring a pop to the black dresses and shirts, Breck & Joe's boston terrier (Gary) was roped into a ring bearer's outfit, and the hunt began to track down one amazing piano man Breck had seen in a restaurant.
A year later her dream became a reality as she married the man she loved in a small intimate outdoor ceremony in the Hitlon's lawn, Padres fans cheering the whole way through. The cocktail reception was a hit with guests, giving them the ability to move around snacking, drinking and mingling the night away. The Piano Man, John Foltz, was an absolute amazing addition to the evening. Setting the perfect tone and making the guests swoon over hit after classic hit.
The entire team of vendors was nothing short of perfect. From the stunning images Resolusean captured, to the bright fun flowers by BRANCHES... a floral studio, to the full year that Day of LOVE spent planning this day with Breck. It truly is a day no one will forget: for it's uniqueness, it's beauty, and most of all it's good old fashioned fun!
